Connecting Local Buyers with Global Fabric Producers Results in Praise for Texworld USA

The Fourth Edition Showcased 158 Exhibitors from 14 Countries

The fourth edition of Texworld USA took place January 22-24, 2008 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Texworld USA continues to provide an international business platform offering a wide array of highly innovative and creative fabrics with an excellent price/quality relationship. With more than 2,350 verified attendees and 158 exhibitors from 14 countries, the industry’s expectations were once again exceeded.

In just two short years, Texworld USA has become recognized as the largest U.S. event focused on apparel fabrics and materials. North American buyers are eagerly anticipating the July 2008 event as the show will change exhibit halls within the Javits Convention Center to a larger space. While the January 2008 edition had to turn away exhibitors due to limited space, the move to a larger hall July 14-16, 2008 will enable many more exhibitors to present their newest and most innovative product lines for the Fall/Winter 2009/10 season.

Qualified Buyers
The qualification process for buyers at Texworld USA continues to be enforced by Messe Frankfurt to ensure that all attendees are legitimate buyers or designers. Each attendee registration was thoroughly reviewed and the appropriate credentials confirmed.

Some of the world’s most prominent buyers attended the event including: Abercrombie & Fitch, Anthropologie, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Badgley Mischka, BCBG Max Azria, Bloomingdale’s, Coach, Chicos, Eddie Bauer, Express, Gap, G-III Apparel, L.A.M.B.,  Lord & Taylor, Phillips Van Heusen, Reebok, Saks Fifth Avenue - Off 5th, Steve and Barrys, Target, Vera Wang - Lavendar Label, Victoria’s Secret and Weatherproof.

Seminars and Trend Display Remain Popular Attractions
The January 2008 seminar program, sponsored by Lenzing Innovation, was again greeted with excitement and high regard by buyers. The highly commended program brought together the world’s foremost authorities on ecotextiles and innovation, a panel to address what constitutes authentic green apparel, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to present their Green Guide.

The Texworld USA trend display featured Spring/Summer 2009 trend colors represented by select fabrics from Texworld USA exhibitors. In addition to the four themes, a special section of the display was devoted to “environmentally friendly” fabrics – materials designed to minimize harmful impacts on the natural world.

The Partnership
Lenzing Innovation continued to partner with Messe Frankfurt for the fourth edition of Texworld USA. Tricia Carey of Lenzing Fibers comments, “Lenzing Innovation continues to be a cornerstone of the Texworld USA show in New York. In our fourth show together with Messe Frankfurt, it is clear that a wide range of manufacturers and retailers value meeting with quality Asian mills right in their own backyard. As travel budgets are reduced and calendars are tighter, buyers are able to meet with mills from many countries without the expense and time of going overseas. The introductions made at Texworld are the start of business relationships.

“Customer reaction to the seminar symposium organized by Lenzing was very well received. The presentations and dialogue at the daily ‘eco’ seminars were solid proof that interest in green fabrics is not a passing trend. Lenzing is a strong player in the field of eco fibers with both TENCEL® lyocell and Lenzing Modal® originating from wood pulp. Not only are Lenzing Fibers originating from nature, but they are also processed in environmentally friendly ways and are fully biodegradable. A key point made at the Federal Trade Commision presentation was that all eco claims must be substantiated to avoid greenwashing. There is an education process involved for manufacturers and retailers marketing green products.

“We look forward to growing Lenzing Innovation with Messe Frankfurt for the July 2008 show in New York.”

Attendee Statements

Susan Bang, Sr. Designer – Knits & Intimates, Anthropologie: "My experience at Texworld was fantastic!! Having access to the Tulip Lounge really helped me get organized after my appointments and recharge to be able to start my second round of appointments. The show as a whole was well organized and easy to navigate. It was truly a pleasure and always great to be able to see our key suppliers all under one roof."

Catherine Mueller-Wilson, Vice President Design, Item-Eyes Inc.:
“We attend many trade shows for our company, which makes ladies sportswear for private and brand name lines. We find Texworld USA to be more practical cost-wise than the other events. While we attend other shows, Texworld USA is the place where we actually place orders. We were very impressed and pleased with the overall selection and prices of the fabrics.”

Damaris Botwick, Product Development, Marc by Marc Jacobs:  “Thrilled to meet new vendors and look at the new trends. The geographical location was key and the product quality and price points brought us here.”

Olena Tsiganok, Designer, Private Brands Inc.:  “Texworld USA is a great show for designers to get a broad perspective of the fabrics that are available. The selection here is very good. We were able to find the one fabric we needed for an important upcoming line.”

Samantha Pelosi, Fabric Manager, Victoria’s Secret Direct:  “We attend Texworld USA because it enables our staff members, who often do not get a chance to travel, to see new fabric lines. The show is very well organized. We are able to see familiar mills as well as new mills that are potential sources.”

Exhibitor Statements

Gloria Wang, BE-MODE Textile Co. Ltd., Taiwan:  “It has been worth participating in Texworld USA. The space is just the right size, not too big or small, and we were visited by valued buyers that we look forward to building strong client relationships with.”

Shweta Patel, Creations by Shanagar, USA:  “The activity level was very high at this show. We saw established companies as well as many start-up and midsize companies. Texworld USA enabled us to meet new companies that needed our product.”

Mozart Tseng, Mozartex, China:  “We met with customers, 30 percent were new – more than we expected.”

S. Ho Choi, Visionland, South Korea:  “We were very satisfied with the number of visitors. At Texworld USA we had several new buyers visit our booth such as Gap, Express and Anthropologie.”
